Maxine Davis Bullington, 93, formally of Sterling, passed away peacefully with her family at her side and went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Dec. 16, 2014, at Alaska Veterans and Pioneers Home, Palmer.

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end,” Jeremiah 29.11.

Maxine was born on Sept. 7, 1921, in Buckhannon, West Virginia. She came to Alaska in 1950 where she first met and later married her husband William (Bill) F. Bullington in 1958. She lived in Chugiak from 1958 until moving to Sterling in 1982.

In 1964 Maxine and Bill began caring for foster children and over the years had more than 40 children. Maxine was actively involved with Sterling Baptist Church, Sterling Senior Center, and Central Peninsula Hospital Auxiliary.

During World War II, she worked at the Naval Yard in Washington, D.C., assembling and dissembling large guns used by U.S. forces. After World War II, she was in supply for the Naval Research Lab and worked for the Immigration and Naturalization Service in Washington, D.C. When she moved to Alaska in 1950, she worked in dry cleaning on Elmendorf Air Force Base and Fort Richardson.

Surviving are husband, William F. Bullington; daughters, Monica Wood, Jeannie Luna, Marie Caruso, Doris Steininger, and Jacqueline Magre; sons, David Hames, Joseph Hames, Robert Apok; 25 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren.

Maxine was always warm, caring and loving with a smile on her face. She loved to laugh, shop, tell stories, and spend time with her family and friends.

A celebration of life is planned at 2 p.m., Dec. 27 at the Sterling Baptist Church. Instead of flowers, please make donations to Sterling Baptist Church or Sterling Senior Center.
