Melvin Leroy Sage-EL II was born April 1, 1960 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the second born of three sons to Melvin and Sylvia Sage-EL. He received a BA in Management from Hampton University and a Masters in Project Management from Wayland Baptist University. He joined the United States Army in 1982 and retired in 2005 as a was a Chief Warrant Officer. Melvin volunteered for many organizations such as the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Wasilla Planning Committee, MLK Jr Foundation, Military Offices Association of America. In retirement, he was a real estate agent for Keller Williams Realty. He also was an avid fisherman, enjoyed spending time outdoors in Alaska and was an active church member at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Palmer.

He is survived by his wife, Doris and his four children,: Javon Byars, Natosha Sage-EL Bylsma (Quinn), Jade Jenkins (Tyler), Melvin Sage-EL III (Sabrina) in addition to his seven grandchildren, his mother, Sylvia Sage-EL and two brothers, Kevin Sage-EL (Lillian) and Keith Sage-EL (Hollie).
