Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Mercedes Errazuriz, 97, died Sept. 2, 2010, at her home in Wasilla.
A memorial service was held Saturday at the Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Anchorage. Pastor Rick Cabero officiated the service.
Mercedes was born Feb. 9, 1913 in Santiago, Chile. In June 1995, she moved to Alaska, living in Anchorage before moving to Wasilla and calling it home. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and a great joy of hers was gardening.
“My mother served God her whole life,” her daughter wrote. “She was very compassionate and had an excellent sense of humor. She loved her children very much.”
She is survived by her daughter, Rosa J. Sanders of Anchorage; son, Patricio Madrid of New York, N.Y.; son, Juan Madrid of Santiago; daughter, Felisa Madrid of Santiago; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Madrid, and sister, Orfilia.
Her ashes will be scattered or buried in Santiago.
Arrangements were with Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla.
