Michael Anthony Leffingwell

Longtime Alaska resident Michael Anthony Leffingwell, 60, passed away suddenly May 17, 2015, while working in Maui, Hawaii.

A service was held at Alaskan Heritage Chapel, 1015 South Check St., Wasilla.

Mike was born March 11, 1955, in Neosho, Missouri. Mike swam the Bosporus Straits before he was even 13, and went on to become an Eagle Scout. After graduating high school, Mike went into the Navy in 1974. Mike married Peggy Hunt on January 13, 1979, in Chicago, Illinois. Mike and his family moved to Alaska in November of 1993 and has resided in Big Lake for the last 22 years.

On his time off he enjoyed sleeping a full night in his own bed, waking up early before everyone else to have a cup of coffee, and watch the History Channel or occasionally the cartoon “Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius.” His hobbies included riding his motorcycle, and collecting, restoring and repairing guns. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends.

Mike Leffingwell left behind his mother, Jacqueline Leffingwell; his loving wife, Peggy Leffingwell; his daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Jason Gobel; and two grandsons, Tyler and Tanner Gobel; two sons, Mikey Leffingwell and Stan Morris; sisters, Darlene Schneiderman, Laurie Slimane, Susan Johnston, and Karen Walters; brothers Gary Randall and Donald Leffingwell; 10 nieces and nephews; and dozens of great nieces and nephew.

We will always love and miss you Big Kahuna, Bigfoot, Big Mike.
