Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Longtime Alaska resident Michael Arnold Carson, 79, passed away at Magnolia Manor in Wasilla, Alaska, on Sunday, Jan. 31.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at 2 p.m. at VFW Post 9365, 301 E. Lake View Ave., Wasilla, Alaska. Pioneers of Alaska will be officiating the Service. Following the Memorial Service, there will be refreshments at the VFW.
Michael was born on Oct. 7, 1936, in Palmer, Alaska. He graduated from high school in 1953, when Wasilla was known as the “Territory of Alaska”. Following high school, Michael served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. After his military service, he attended Southern Oregon University, graduating in 1962.
Michael retired in 2014 as a real estate broker. Michael was a member of Pioneers of Alaska-Men’s Igloo No. 31 and served as its secretary for over 20 years. He was also a former member of the Wasilla City Council.
Mike was a lifelong resident of Alaska. His parents were among the original colonists in the Mat-Su Valley. Mike enjoyed spending time with his sons playing golf and enjoying the Alaskan way of life. Miss you Pops.

Mike is survived by his wife, Judy Carson, of Wasilla, Alaska; sons, Scott (Donna) Carson of Paris, France; Daniel Carson of Wasilla, Alaska; brother, James Carson of Wasilla, Alaska; sister, Sally (Lee) Karabelnikoff of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren, Ethan, Anna and Kaylee Carson, of Paris, France; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Carson Jr.; parents, Arnold and Hortense Carson; and sister, Pat Newcomb.
