Michael Joseph Raney, age 64, passed away on March 6, 2017, surrounded by his Family at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center.
Michael was born on June 8, 1952, in Independence, Missouri, to Charles and Pamela (Petitt) Raney.
Michael, also known as “Mick” by his friends and family, will always be remembered for his kind heart and gregarious smile. Michael was a gentle soul. He was a well-traveled person and was always remembered for his kind demeanor, as well as being kind and polite to others.
He was easy to talk to and will be missed by many here in Alaska. During his travels he spent time throughout Alaska, Canada and lower 48. He spent most of his last years here in the Mat-Su Valley. He had a very adventurous side and spent much of his time in the outdoors, either bicycling or simply walking.
Michael was able to see parts of Alaska and meet more people than most. His kind heart and smile that could light up a room will be missed by his family.
Michael is survived by his loving parents: Charles and Pamela Raney of Wasilla, Alaska; his sister, Meagan Sturkey of Utica, New York; his brother and sister in-law, Matthew and Dana Raney of Wasilla, Alaska; and his brother and sister in-law, Marty and Mollee Raney of Wasilla, Alaska. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
There will be a private Celebration of Life in memory of Michael for his friends and family on Wednesday, March 22, 2017.
