Michael Llewellyn Gardiner passed away at 2:14 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21. He was 22 years old. Michael was born in Juneau on November 13, 1991. Being born with serious medical complications, Michael spent only several hours in Juneau before his medevac to Anchorage, then finally Portland, Oregon. After the underlying problem of failed kidneys was diagnosed, Michael received approximately two years of home peritoneal dialysis before a receiving a successful transplant from his mother. Shortly after his transplant and a bout with hydrocephalus, Michael returned to Alaska with his family, where he lived in Wasilla and finally in Palmer.
If you would like to come and say “goodbye” to Michael, there will be a small memorial at the Valley Funeral Home, 151 E. Herning Ave. in Wasilla at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4.
Michael attended Cottonwood Creek Elementary, Big Lake Elementary, Meadow Lakes Elementary and Houston Middle School. He graduated from Houston High School in 2011.
Michael is survived by his parents Edward and Michele Gardiner of Wasilla; brothers John Gardiner and Chris Gardiner of Anchorage, and Andrew Gardiner, who currently serves in the armed forces, stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas; and sisters Laura Gardiner of and Vivian Gardiner of Wasilla.
