Longtime Alaska resident Michael Scott Berg, 60, passed away unexpectedly on July 27, 2016, at his home in Wasilla. Mike was born April 8, 1956 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Walter and Fern Berg. He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1974, and moved to Alaska shortly afterwards. While many know him as an owner of Wasilla Arctic Cat, Mike had an interesting employment history that included pattern making, construction work in which he built several houses, masonry work, involved in the cleanup of the 1989 oil spill in Valdez, and a partner in Dan’s Tackle Town. In 1995, he married his longtime love, Karen (Cesarz) Berg. Big Mike of the Valley, also known as Uncle Mike, was an avid hunter and fisherman and had a love for Finnish Saunas.

He was fun-loving, generous, and a prankster, and could often be found cooking for groups of people at the Cat Shop. He was a hard worker who aimed to provide for the happiness and safety of his family. Mike is survived by his wife Karen Berg, children Krystal Cesarz-Berg, Corey Cesarz-Berg, and Kristina Berg; his brothers, Greg (Sandy) Berg, John Berg, Dan Berg, Eric Berg, and sister, Amy (Bill) Brushwood; his brother-in-law, Thomas (Chris) Cesarz; is aunts Elaine, Hilma, and Eva and many nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2016, at King of Kings

Lutheran Church, 1601 N Lucille St, Wasilla, Alaska. Coffee, refreshments, and visiting will follow the service. His family intends to spread his ashes at his beloved Trapper Creek cabin.
