Mildred “Millie” S. Servel, 87, of Houston passed away Feb. 8, 2014, at home.

A celebration of life is at 1 p.m., Feb. 12 at Valley Funeral Home in Wasilla.

Millie was born July 17, 1926, in Lake Dallas, Texas, to Jessie and Florence (Thompson) Shelton. Mildred had been a resident of Alaska since 2005, residing in Chugiak and Houston.

Millie retired in 1985 after 30 years of service to the Pacific Bell Phone Co.

Millie also enjoyed sewing and design.

Millie was a strong and gifted woman. She came to Alaska late in her life, but she loved her Alaska home and all the new friends that came into her life in these last few years. Her passing leaves an empty space in the lives of her family. She will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Trudi Mitchell of Houston; and a granddaughter, Allie Reese of Anchorage.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Servel; and son, Herbert Mitchell Jr.

Burial will be at a later date in the Oakmont Cemetery in Walnut Creek, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Mat-Su Food Bank, 501 E. Bogard Rd., Wasilla, AK 99654.
