Mildred “Millie” Wickham lost her battle with cancer on May 25, 2023. She was born in Iowa on March 25, 1936. Millie, her husband Jay, son Greg, relocated from their farm in Iowa to Palmer in 1969 where they made their forever home.
After settling in Alaska, Millie worked for various Mat-Su Valley companies including Alaska Bank of Commerce, Matanuska Electric Association, State of Alaska Division of Agriculture and the “In-And-Out” Quick Shop in Palmer. Millie was a volunteer at Bishops Attic and the Palmer Food Bank. Her hobbies included crocheting beautiful blankets and playing cards with friends.
Millie was a kind and generous soul who thoroughly enjoyed being around kids of all ages. There was always a supply of treats at “Millie’s House”. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death in 2020 by her husband Jay of 65 years, whom she missed terribly. Survivors are their son Greg (Patty); grandchildren Andrew Wickham, Lauren Ellis (Jason), Kristina Taylor (Jordan); siblings Kaye Hendricks (Palmer), Karen Bartling (Iowa), Darwin Wikert (Jan) of Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family expresses a special thank you to Millie’s friends and neighbors for their generous help and support over the years. Additionally, a heartfelt thanks to the Ancora Hospice Team for their assistance and thoughtful care.
At Millie’s request, there will be no service. She chose cremation and wished for her ashes to be scattered at Gunsight Mountain in Palmer. In lieu of flowers, she asked that anyone wishing to make a donation do so to their favorite charity or St. Jude’s Hospital.
Arrangements were handled by Kehl’s Mortuary in Palmer.
