Mrs. Dawn Puanani (Breeze) Whitworth

Mrs. Dawn Puanani (Breeze) Whitworth, born May 19, 1941 in Honolulu, Hawaii, to the late Muriel Mossman Breeze and the late Chief Petty Officer Randall Myron Breeze, passed away at age 77 on September 18, 2018 in Palmer, Alaska. Dawn was the loving wife of William S. Whitworth.

Dawn (Kennerson) began her career in culinary arts at the H & H (Howard and Hazel) Grocery and Lodge in Talkeetna, Alaska. As a member of the Kennerson family, Dawn helped build, cook, and manage, this mom and pop store. She continued her career as a bread cutter at the Carrs store on Gambell St. Anchorage, Alaska. In 1967-1968 Dawn attended Everett Community College, Everett Washington, to pursue a teaching degree. Then She continued in culinary arts as a member of the Anchorage chapter, Chefs de Cuisine, and a protégé to Chef Karl Eid. Dawn taught culinary arts for Anchorage Community College from 1970 to 1974. This program continues at UAA. Students perform their culinary magic at Lucy's in Cuddy Hall. Dawn involved all her children in her love of creating beautiful food. Her children served food for community banquets at Cuddy Hall, (then ACC). Dawn moved to Ketchikan and taught culinary arts from 1974 to 1976. She inspired students throughout the state to work in the commercial cooking field from Oil companies, to the Alaska Marine Highway. The Anchorage Daily News celebrated her skills with a lifestyles article in 1973. 1974 through 1979 she owned, Dawnways Kennels, showing German Shepherds in the conformation and obedience ring. Dawn and Bill Whitworth managed the musk ox farm in Unalakleet, Alaska from 1982 until December 1985, when the musk ox were moved to their current location in Palmer, Alaska. They were always looking for an extra hand combing the Qiviat, and met many fellow Alaskan travelers. Dawn won The Judge' choice award in the 2016 Alaska State Fair, for Thundering Breeze, a framed picture collage of her fathers WWII destroyer the Herndon, the letter that all service members sent their families prior to leaving England for the D-Day invasion 6/6/1944, and a family picture. Chief Petty Officer Randall Breeze survived D-day, as well as the Pearl Harbor Invasion 12/7/1941.

Dawn traveled throughout Alaska, and enjoyed painting oil landscapes. She was a dog fancier, an accomplished cake decorator and helped people celebrate life events with beautiful, colorful, decorated cakes from Northern Alaska in Unalakleet to Southern Alaska in Ketchikan.

She is survived by her husband William and the following family, brother, Oscar Breeze, Antioch, California; sister, Bonnie Sprung, Pacheco, California. Aunt Alice Mossman; Cousin Genevieve Mossman of Spokane, Washington; daughters; Joan Beraldi (Salvatore) of Ketchikan, Alaska, and Shirley LeAnn Ledford of Midland, Texas, Sons; Roland Kennerson (Lori), Robert Kennerson (Tina), of Palmer, Alaska, Randall Kennerson (Cynthia) of Kingman, Arizona, William S. Whitworth IV of Midland, Texas, Grandchildren; Robert Keith Kennerson, Shawn Kennerson, Cody Kennerson of Palmer, Alaska, Kristina Fairbanks of Rock Creek, Minnesota, Shane Martin of Anchorage, Alaska, Angela Wynacht of Ketchican, Alaska, Jennifer Cloudy of Freeland, Washington, Charles Cloudy of Kirkland, Washington, William S Whitworth V, Destiny Whitworth, Hayden Ledford, Tiffany Hudgens of Midland, Texas and many great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her greatly loved dogs, Knitta, Neeka, and Miss Patches.

Dawn was preceded in death by her sisters Carol Drewry, and Darlene Breeze, Antioch, California.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday September 30, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family on. Kehl's Palmer Legacy Funeral Home is handling arrangements, 209 S. Alaska St., Palmer, (907) 745-3580.
