As students and parents are winding their way through new schedules, new classes, and familiar faces, buses grind their way through the streets forging new routes to and from school, and teachers work to create engaging lesson plans and show students what they are truly capable of accomplishing, it can only mean one thing-school is back in session.
As students get back into the swing of bell work and homework, finding the right classrooms and counting down to June, schools throughout the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District (MSBSD) have been back in session for a little over a week, and MSBSD Superintendent Dr. Randy Trani has laid out a few goals for the school year, including working to ensure that all students reading at grade level by 3rd grade, administrators and staff are aligned working together for the achievement of established priorities, all schools and programs will have consistently high expectations for all students, that parents and guardians have the tools and resources to be engaged in their students' education, and that all students have access to multiple choices after high school to include the military and career options and technical training and college.
“The school year has started out well, and it’s the best start in the five years I’ve been here.”
Indeed, enrollment is currently verified at 18,698 students as of August 20. Student enrollment is projected to be at 19, 412, which Dr. Trani says the MSBSD is right on track.
MSBSD also recently launched a new, updated website that has a new look and feel to it. The school district will continue to fine-tune the features as they transition to the new website.
“I know it’s going to be the best year ever.”
