Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Longtime Alaskan Nancy Jane Culp, 83, passed away July 9, 2013, at her home in Wasilla with her daughters Wanda Carp and “Brandy” Merrie Culp-Washburn by her side.
Nancy was born May 22, 1930, and raised in California.
She met and married Charles M. Culp while he was in the U.S. Army in California, and they were transferred to Alaska in 1954, where they made their home for many years.
Nancy loved life and had a long and varied one. She loved her children and many grandchildren, liked gardening, reading books, art, playing poker and visiting with her many friends and doing puzzles.
Surviving are her brother, Jim Elwell of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Wanda Wessel of Temple City, Calif.; daughters, Dana Koenig of Yucipa, Calif., and Wanda Carp of Wasilla; daughter and son-in-law, “Brandy” Merrie Culp-Washburn and Steve Washburn of Kenai; nieces and nephew, Kathy Hallbert, Sandy Hallbert McFarran and David Hallbert; grandchildren, Shirley Klatt, Tina De Mercada, Robert Hamilton, George Oltmans, Dennis Carp, Danny Carp and Robert Luman, Shelley Clark and Sarah Washburn-Stouf; and many grand nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Nancy’s caregivers, Rebecca and Samantha, Brenda and Maria and her doctors, friends and neighbors at the Meadow Lakes Senior Home for all the comfort, care and friendship given throughout the years she lived there.
“Time is like a river. You cannot touch the same water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again. Enjoy every moment of your life.”
Arrangements are with Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel and Crematory.
