Nancy Lynn Turner

Lifelong Alaskan Nancy Lynn Turner, 64, died in her Wasilla home on July 29, 2012, of natural causes. Nancy was born April 21, 1948, in Anchorage to Daniel and Henrietta Fosnaugh.

She graduated from West Anchorage High School in 1966, subsequently attended college in Bellingham, Wash., then transferred to the University of Oregon in Eugene, where she studied philosophy and religion. Nancy married Bill Turner on July 1, 1968, and they moved to Japan shortly thereafter where Bill was stationed at Yokota Air Force Base. Upon returning to Anchorage in 1971, Nancy obtained her private pilot’s license.

Nancy worked for Reeve Aleutian Airways as a personal secretary to Bob Reeve for several years before leaving the airline to be an at-home mom for her two daughters, Danielle and Jaime. She became a well-known horse show mom during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Nancy started her own business and videotaped all the jumping classes at Alaska horse shows for many years.

In 1995, Nancy and her husband moved to Wasilla and resided there until her death.

Nancy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved her family, especially her five grandchildren, without limit and relished the role of “grandma.” She was very much a family person and spent much of her time corresponding with family and friends and sending greetings and gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations — you name it — to a family that stretched from Alaska to Virginia.

Nancy enjoyed gardening, traveling, skiing, reading and going on picnics, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with the ones she loved.

Surviving are her husband, Bill Turner; daughters Danielle Erkmann and Jaime Freeman; and grandchildren, Arianna, Henry, Jaxon, Johnny and Oliver.

A celebration of life is from 6 to 10 p.m., Aug. 7 at the Aviation Museum in Anchorage near Lake Hood, 4721 Aircraft Dr. All those who knew and loved Nancy are invited to attend.

Arrangements are with Janssen’s Evergreen Memorial Chapel. To sign the guestbook, visit the memorial at janssenfuneralhomes.com.
