CHICKALOON — If you’re headed to Glennallen soon, you might get to sleep in a few extra minutes.
Changes implemented last week upped the speed limit on 94 miles of the Glenn Highway from 55 mph to 65 mph.
The changes start at Cascade at Mile 91 and continue to Mile 185. The speed limit reduces to 50 mph at Creek Canyon — Miles 105.5 to 107 — and down to 40 through Glennallen, according to a press release from the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.
“The department performed a speed limit evaluation study, which showed the highway was able to support traffic moving at higher than previously posted speeds,” ADOT&PF Commissioner Pat Kemp says in the press release. “This was identified as a cost-effective project with the purpose of allowing vehicles to move more efficiently on the Glenn Highway.”
