Gov. Mike Dunleavy announced in a press release that on the morning of Wednesday, Feb 24 he tested positive for COVID-19. Three days prior on Sunday morning, Dunleavy began quarantining after he had been notified that he was a close contact of someone else who had tested positive. Dunleavy tested negative for COVID-19 on Sunday morning and did not begin experiencing symptoms until Tuesday night.
The press release states that Alaska’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anne Zink and the attending physician for the Governor are monitoring his health and will provide the public with updates as needed.
As of the most recent update on the Department of Health and Social Services cases dashboard, 55,736 Alaskans have tested positive for COVID-19. In the city and Borough of Juneau, there have been 1,130 total resident cases and only three new cases have been reported recently.
