Nora “Lynn” McGhie, 50, died Sept. 13, 2012.
A memorial service is at 4 p.m., Sept. 27 at Valley Funeral Home & Crematory, 151 E. Herning Ave., Wasilla.
Nora “Lynn” McGhie was born Oct. 14, 1961, in Charleston, W.V., the second of four daughters born to Danny Lee Chandler and Mary Elizabeth Davis. She was always the lover, protector and caretaker of her two younger sisters.
Lynn also had a deep love for her grandmother Thelma Davis-Huffman and her “grannies” house was always her most favorite place to be as a child. She had a great love for nature and animals, and an insatiable appetite to discover new things.
Lynn ventured to Alaska in 1981 with her two small children, Erica and Fred. Alaska became her second love next to her children and family in West Virginia. She made Alaska her home; feeling safe and peace, wrapped in the huge mountains and majestic tundra surrounding her.
She became an excellent fisherman, who in fact could out-fish almost any devout Alaska fisherman. Lynn was a loving, gentle-spirited mother who singly raised them to appreciate life and the beauty of God’s creation. Lynn enjoyed making everyone laugh and often would with a silly joke or witty comment. She enjoyed the simple things in life and could take the most pleasure doing things with her family like combing the beach for rocks and driftwood, fossil searching, exploring nature in mushroom hunts, berry picking and hiking Thunderbird Falls, Hatcher Pass, and Flat Top. Lynn loved to camp and she wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty even though she looked as gorgeous as Marilyn Monroe. She was a nurturer, someone who would always root for the underdog, and she loved the “un-loveable;” those the world let pass by.
Lynn married Scott McGhie in 1994 and gave birth to their third child, Destini in 1995. Lynn was a lover of life, a giver, and a free spirit. She believed in God and she always knew that this time on earth was only temporary. Lynn was the kind of woman who could light up a room and warm your heart with her beautiful smile. She will be dearly missed and always and forever cherished in our hearts.
Surviving are her ex-husband, Scott; daughters, Erica Perry and Destini McGhie; son, Fred Perry Jr.; grandchildren, Zoey and Landin Perry; sisters, Kelly, Danni Jean, and Melissa all of West Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to: Lynn McGhie, Alaska USA Federal Credit Union, Account No. 1712518.
