Artists have until April 30 to apply to be part of a local OneTree effort organized by Valley Arts Alliance, University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service and UAF School of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences.
OneTree aims to show the unique value of woodlands by demonstrating the volume and quality of work that can be made from just one tree.
For this project, one birch tree will be cut down in April. Once the wood is dry, it will be distributed to artists at the UAF Palmer Center for Sustainable Living at the Matanuska Experiment Farm on Trunk Road.
Artists will use the wood to create anything from furniture to abstractions, and their completed work will be displayed at the Alaska State Fair in Palmer Aug. 23 to Sept. 3.
