Alaska resident Panthea Susan Redwood, age 80, died on January 3rd, 2021 at home in Palmer, Alaska.
Panthea was born on October 1, 1940, in Baltimore, Maryland. She spent her early years in Palo Alto, California, and moved to the East Coast at the age of sixteen for college. When she was forty, her spirit of adventure led her to migrate west and north with her three children, to homestead in Alaska. There, she discovered a deep connection with the rugged natural beauty of the North, and worked for many years as a land use planner for the Municipality of Anchorage. Panthea traveled extensively throughout her life, finding particular connections to Scandinavia, Thailand, India, and the American Southwest; her most recent adventure was exploring the botany of South Africa. She was a dedicated birder and gardener, and also loved singing and oil painting.
Panthea is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Leslie Wilkes, and her grandson Brennan Wilkes, of Vancouver, BC; her daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Joel Hawkins of Seattle, WA; her daughter, Diana Redwood of Anchorage, AK; and her brother, Mansur Kreps.
