Patrick Agen

Lifelong Alaskan and Anchorage resident Patrick Agen, 54, died suddenly at his home Aug. 8, 2012.

Patrick was cremated and interred at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery. His wishes were that no service be held. Cards and notes may be sent to his daughter, Jessica Martens and family, c/o Agen’s Automotive, 737 E. International Airport Road, Anchorage, AK 99518. Memorial contributions may be made in Patrick’s name to the Salvation Army of Anchorage.

Patrick was born Sept. 4, 1957, in Anchorage to Raymond and Joan Agen. He was the youngest of four children. Patrick married Sandra Hamilton and they had a daughter, his “baby girl,” Jessica Rae in 1981.

Pat worked at many things throughout his life, but found his calling as manager of Agen’s Automotive in 1986. He worked side-by-side with his brother Ray until April 2008, when he bought the business and ran it as owner-operator until his death. His employees, most of who have been with the company for 10 to 20 years, will sorely miss him.

Patrick was a man with a big heart who would help anyone in need, especially his family. He had an extraordinary sense of humor and wit and loved to play pranks. He made us laugh. He was a soft-spoken man and will be missed by all who knew him.

Patrick loved the outdoors and loved fly-fishing, camping, hiking and the beauty of Alaska. He loved sharing all of his interests with his daughter during those special summers they spent together.

Patrick was a man of many talents. He was an accomplished guitar player, singer and songwriter. He amazed everyone who heard him play. He also enjoyed karaoke with his brother, Michael, and sister, Wendy.

Patrick also had a love for adventure and enjoyed sharing that with others. Just one experience was a trip to Pennsylvania with his friend Tom Langowski to pick up brand new Harley Davidson motorcycles. The two rode across the country all the way back to Alaska, stopping to visit relatives along the way. He had recently made trips to California to get to know his granddaughter, Avalon. They spent time together visiting Sea World, Disneyland and the beach. She called him “papa laka.”

Patrick is survived by his daughter, Jessica (Justin) Martens; granddaughter, Avalon; grandson, Honor; mother, Joan Miller; brothers, Ray (Lynda) Agen and Michael (Gail) Agen; sister, Wendy Priest; numerous nieces and nephews; and his constant companion Cheeto, his Pomeranian.
