Paul E. Pankowski, 79, died Jan. 2, 2013, at his home in Chickaloon. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Paul was born Feb. 20, 1933, in Williston, N.D. He settled into Alaska around the late 1960s or early ’70s, and had been a resident ever since.
Paul was heavy equipment operator. He was a retired member of IBEW Local No. 1547, IBEW local 77 and IUOE Local No. 701.
Surviving are his sons, James Pankowski (Diane), John Pankowski and Joseph Pankowski (Kim); daughter, Jackie Hassell (Brett); brothers, Ron Pankowski (Harriet) of Port Angeles, Wash., Tom Pankowski (Elsie) of Powers Lake, N.D., and Phillip Pankowski of Kelso, Wash.; sisters, Ethel Hegstad of Powers Lake, N.D., Gloria Pankowski of Colorado and Millie Mathis (Paul) of Kelso, Wash.; brother-in-law Gene Nice of Williston, N.D., and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was his daughter, Jean Pankowski; brother, Lawrence Pankowski; and sister, Shirley Nice.
