Paul Timothy Nelson, 72, passed away March 18, 2013, in Big Lake.

A Celebration of Life in honor of Paul was held March 23, 2013, at South Fork Construction in Eagle River. His ashes will be scattered at White Mountain Gold Mine.

Paul was born May 25, 1940, in Traverse City, Mich., son of Arnold and Ruth Nelson. He served his country in the Air Force with aircraft crash and rescue from 1957-1961 before moving to Alaska in 1974, where he lived in areas such as Kodiak, Anchorage and Eagle River before settling in Big Lake. Paul also maintained a residence in Port Townsend, Wash., since 1988.

Paul was a self-employed carpet installer since leaving the Air Force in the 1960s. He owned Everlast Carpet Company and installed flooring in everything from private jets, large yachts and homes for more than 50 years.

Paul was a Bible-believing Christian. He was passionate about gold mining and his family.

The family wrote: “Paul was much loved and respected by all who knew him.”

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Ruth Nelson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jillana Nelson; son, Noah Nelson; daughter, Hannah Nelson; son, Timothy Nelson; daughter, Vicki Davis; and brothers, Bob, Jim, Dave and Dan. Paul is also survived by six grandsons, one granddaughter and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations in memory of Paul may be made to: Paul Nelson Memorial Fund at Wells Fargo Bank.
