Mrs. Pauline Woodard, 88, died Aug. 15, 2002, at Valley Hospital in Palmer, of heart failure.

Pastor Ethan Hansen will officiate at her memorial service. The service will be held Monday, Aug. 19, at 4 p.m. at Faith Bible Fellowship on Hollywood Road in Big Lake. There will be a reception immediately following.

Mrs. Woodward was born July 17, 1914, in Calhoun, Mo. She graduated high school as Salutatorian.

Traversing the Continental United States with her husband and growing family, she finally arrived in Alaska in June of 1967. She lived in Anchorage from 1967 to 1989. She moved to Big Lake in 1989 and lived there until October 2001. Her most recent home was in Wasilla.

For a number of years she worked in retail sales. Her skills were utilized in New Orleans and Boston. While living in Seattle, she was employed by Bon Marche. After moving to Alaska, she was employed by J. C. Penney & Co. until her retirement in 1985.

After moving to Big Lake, she became a member of Faith Bible Fellowship. She enjoyed weekly Bible studies, Women's Sunday School Class and Sunday morning church services.

Pauline loved to read. She loved to spend time with her family. She also enjoyed cooking for her Alaskan grandson and his friends. She was always interested in the world's current events.

Her daughters remember, "A charming young mother, Pauline faithfully took her two daughters home every summer to Missouri to see their grandparents. Train rides with Mom were always an adventure.

"An old-fashioned cook, she created her own recipes for baked beans, cole slaw and potato salad. Those recipes will never be reproduced but the flavor of the dishes, as well as the memories of the gatherings they were served at, will linger.

"Mom greeted everyone with sparkling blue eyes and a smile. Once you got to know her, she had a loving heart that especially reached out to her family and their friends. Her specialty, chocolate chip cookies, have comforted and cheered many children of all ages. The family pet also knew who the soft touch was in the home. Pounds of hamburger and ham and chocolate cakes disappeared off the counter without any reprimand from Mom.

"Pauline loved God and His word. She loved her family and friends and she loved her country."

Mrs. Woodard is survived by her daughters, Lora Ann Eubanks and son-in-law Michael Andre Eubanks of Acme, Wash., and Mary Jane Oberg of Big Lake; her grandchildren Sy Eubanks, Michelle Eubanks and Case Eubanks all of Acme, Wash., and her great-grandchildren, Mason Maurice Eubanks of Sultan, Wash., and Odin Draco Eubanks of Blaine, Wash.
