Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Penny Sue Fierros, 74, of Wasilla passed away Dec. 27, 2014, at her son and daughter-in-law’s home. Penny was born in Kendalville, Indiana, to James and Alice Edsall on Aug. 1, 1940. Penny had an extensive and successful career in different fields including but not limited to Wiens Aviation, Era Aviation, and Chugiak Development Corp. In her retirement years she became a foster parent for special needs children. She was dedicated to them and loved them as if they were her own children. Penny was artistic in nature and enjoyed arts and crafts. Spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and family and friends was most important to her. She also loved animals, especially her pets Moglie the cat, Truman the dog, and Ivory the bird. She spoiled them all.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Michael and David Hitchcock; brother, Edwin Edsall; and parents, James and Alice Edsall.
Her surviving relatives are, brother, James Lorne Edsall; sisters, Judith Ann Manson and Shannon Rae Sullivan; daughters, Peggy Henderson and Mary Pruss; son, Dan Manson; daughter-in-law, Angie Manson; foster children, Christopher and Jocelyn; grandchildren, Dave Manson, Nickolas Gee, Paris Drake, Renee Nicolay, Kimmer Manson, Kendra Manson, Kellie Manson, Kane Manson, Katie Manson; her great grandchildren; Breanna Manson, Serene Manson, Michael Manson, Andrew Manson, Hailey Gee, Aleksey Gee and Dmitri Gee; as well as many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service is at 2:30 p.m., Jan. 10 at Valley Funeral Home, 151 E. Herning Ave., Wasilla.
In lieu of flowers, Penny would have liked donations to adopt a pet programs or toys for tots.
She is loved and missed by all that knew her.
