Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Philip Pickard Lockwood, 67, of Wasilla, passed away at his home Dec. 26.
Philip was born Nov. 21, 1941 to Dwight and Hazel Lockwood in Port Huron, Mich. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and also did graduate work in education.
Mr. Lockwood has been a resident of Alaska since 1967, making his home in Anchorage until the late ‘80s and early ‘90s when he moved to Wasilla. He was a self-employed general contractor.
Over the years, Mr. Lockwood was a former member of the Jaycees. He was recognized as an outstanding board member and for outstanding service to the chapter. He served as the Cruise Chairman for the National Association of Home Builders. He was a member and board member of the Mat-Su Homebuilders Association, serving as the president in 1995, and was named the Builder of the Year in 1994. He was a member and officer of the Alaska State Home Builders Association, serving as the president from 1997-1998. Mr. Lockwood served on the Wasilla City Council and was a member of the Planning Commission. He was involved with the Wasilla-Knik-Willow Creek Historical Society and Habitat for Humanity. He received the 25d Life Spike from the NAHB. Over the years he was very involved with as a member and chair of the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce, and was a board member and Past President of the Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry.
He enjoyed restoring old farm tractors, and had a special interest in the Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry.
His family wrote: “Even in times of adversity he was always volunteering to help”.
Philip is survived by his son, Eric Lockwood, Fredericksburg, Va.; his daughter, Julie Householder, Gainsville, Va.; his grandchildren, Holly, Brandon and Alex Lockwood, Fredericksburg, Va., and Justin, Jared, Jacob Householder, Gainsville, Va.; and two sisters, Julie Robinson, Tecumsch, Mich.; and Nancy Lockwood, Scotts Hill, Tenn.
He preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Hazel Lockwood.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Hasara Family at the Cremation Society of Alaska.
