Phillip “Phil” J. Kowalski, 66, passed away on October 6, 2021, at Mat Su Regional Hospital, surrounded by his daughters in Palmer, Alaska. He was born March 1, 1955, in Minneapolis St Paul, MN, the son of Alves and Betty (Sliefert) Kowalski.
Phil graduated from Juneau Douglas High School of Juneau, Alaska. Following graduation, Phil and his family moved from Juneau to Big Lake and have been long-term community members to the present date. It was then Phil met his late wife, Eva Loyd-Kowalski, and married April 24, 1982. Phil’s primary profession was a long-term mechanic from an early age. Phil traveled as a mechanic to remote areas and villages of Alaska, and spent time in the pits helping fix racecars. He also worked as a local volunteer firefighter and bartender.
Phil is survived by his daughters — Rhonda Loyd, Jamie Kowalski, and Michelle Garcia (Big Lake, AK); his brother — David K. Kowalski (Anchorage, AK); his grandchildren — Joseph Mach, Danyel Loyd, Karlee Wertman, Ashlynn Garcia, Maci Garcia and Jennifer Garcia-Williams (Big Lake, AK); and niece, Marie Brossow (Anchorage, AK); and many extended family and friends. Phil was predeceased in death by his wife, Eva Maxine Loyd-Kowalski (Alaska); his parents, Alves Kenneth & Betty Jane Kowalski (Alaska); his sister, JoAnn Rasch (Iowa).
A service of remembrance will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Faith Bible Fellowship — 14225 Kluane Dr., Big Lake, AK. A small reception will follow in the fellowship hall. Phil will be cremated, and his remains will be spread across Big Lake. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations due to financial needs during their time of loss.
