ALASKA STATE TROOPERS

ASSAULT / WARRANT ARREST

Aug. 23, 5:55 a.m.: Troopers responded to a residence off Mile 1.5 Knik Goose Bay Road in Wasilla for a reported assault after the fact. Investigation revealed that 23-year-old Ryan A. Bentley of Wasilla allegedly assaulted his girlfriend. During this investigation, troopers also contacted 21-year-old Donald M. Leach II of Wasilla. Investigation revealed that Leach had one outstanding arrest warrant in the amount of $1,000 for failure to appear on an original charge of theft III. Both Bentley and Leach were arrested and transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility, where Bentley was held without bail for domestic violence assault and Leach was held on $1,000 bail for the warrant.

ESCAPE

Aug. 22, 3:25 p.m.: Troopers contacted Jason J. Brown, 23, of Palmer and Moriah M. McVey, 25, of Wasilla near 480 Commercial Drive in Palmer. Brown and McVey had been detained by the Palmer Police Department after an individual called 911 to report a suspicious individual near the railroad tracks in the same area. Investigation revealed that Brown was an inmate from Palmer Correction Center who had allegedly left a work detail in order to meet with McVey to obtain tobacco. Brown was arrested, transported and remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $5,000 bail for escape II and attempted promotion of contraband II. McVey was summoned to appear in court for attempted promotion of contraband II and allowed to depart the scene.

MVC / MVA

Aug. 22, 2:10 p.m.: Troopers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of the Palmer-Wasilla Highway and Trunk Road in Wasilla. Investigation revealed Anthony R. Morrison, 47, of Wasilla was proceeding south on Trunk Road and crossing the intersection at Palmer-Wasilla Highway in a 1992 Plymouth Voyager when he collided head-on with a 2002 Chevy Pickup driven by Kathy N. Kinsey, 19, of Wasilla. Kinsey was attempting to turn left (west) onto Palmer-Wasilla Highway from the northbound lane of Trunk Road at the time of the collision. Both parties reported wearing their seat belts and there were no reported injuries. Morrison's Plymouth sustained about $4,000 in damage while Kinsey's Chevy sustained about $5,000 in damage. Kinsey was issued a citation for failure to yield to a vehicle in an intersection after a green signal.

Aug. 23, 2:29 p.m.: Troopers responded to a report of a three-car motor vehicle collision on Trunk Road near Marcell Loop in Palmer. Investigation revealed a 17-year-old male from Wasilla was traveling south on Trunk Road in a 1990 Cadillac Deville when he rear-ended a 2002 Dodge Durango driven by Holly K. Mothershead, 21, of Palmer. Mothershead's Durango then lunged forward and struck a 1984 Chevy pickup driven by James D. Maw, 19, of Palmer. Both Mothershead and Maw were slowing for traffic just prior to the collision. All parties reported wearing their seat belts and there were no reported injuries. The Cadillac sustained about $4,000 in damage while Mothershead's and Maw's vehicle sustain about $2,000 each. The teen was issued a citation for failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision and for operating a vehicle in violation of a provisional driver's license.

THEFT

Aug. 23, 3:45 p.m.: Troopers received a report of a theft from a residence. A 43-year-old Wasilla woman reported that a 14-year-old male had allegedly taken money from her purse that was left unattended in her bedroom. The amount of money taken is between $75 and $200. The suspect has been identified and charges are being forwarded to the Palmer Youth Facility

Aug. 22, 12:26 p.m.: Troopers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from a residence on Skyview Drive in the Meadow Lakes area. Investigation revealed that a red 1986 Ford F250 extended cab with a yellow plow attached was stolen from the residence on or about Aug. 14 at about 10 p.m. while the owner was out of town. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the troopers at 907-373-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 907-745-3333.

DWLCSR

Aug. 23, 7:15 p.m.: Troopers contacted James Gross, 51, of Palmer during a traffic stop for expired registration. Investigation revealed that Gross was allegedly driving with a suspended driver's license. Gross was issued a summons for driving while license suspended and his vehicle was released to a responsible party.

NVOL

Aug. 23, 4:27 a.m.: Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a white 1995 Pontiac van at Parks Highway and Lucille for an equipment violation. The driver, Jason Downard, 26, of Anchorage stated he was driving without a valid driver's license. Alaska Public Safety Information Network verified Downard did not have a valid operator's license. Downard was issued one summons for driving without a valid operator's license and released at the scene.

WASILLA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Aug. 22: Christopher Lee Arentz, 20, of Wasilla was issued a summons for possession of marijuana following a traffic stop at the intersection of Wasilla-Fishook Road and Spruce Avenue.
