Wasilla Police Department

DUI

July 4: Police received a call of a female slumped over the steering wheel at Railroad Avenue and Willow Street in Wasilla. Wasilla Police contacted Michelle L. Ahern, 33, of Wasilla, who was slumped over her steering wheel with the vehicle running. Investigation led to the arrest of Ahern for driving under the influence. Ahern was transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility where bail was set at $1,000 cash/corporate.

July 5, 12:36 a.m.: Police contacted Dustin D.W. McCurdy, 22, of Wasilla, for reckless driving and crossing the center line near the intersection of Church Road and Spruce Avenue in Wasilla. Investigation revealed that McCurdy was driving under the influence of alcohol. McCurdy was arrested for felony driving under the influence. McCurdy was also charged with felony refusal and driving with a revoked License. McCurdy was also driving his vehicle without insurance.

WARRANT ARREST

July 4, 8:39 p.m.: Police stopped a red Ford Mustang for a traffic violation. Subsequent investigation revealed that a male juvenile passenger was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear, original charge minor consuming alcohol. The juvenile was remanded at the Mat-Su Youth Facility on $500 cash only bail.

RUNAWAYS

July 4: Kassey Furlong, 35, of Wasilla, called Wasilla Police to report three female juveniles had run away from the Dorthy Saxton Shelter. Investigation is on going.

July 5, 12:42 a.m.: Staff from the Dorothy Saxson Youth Shelter reported two females had run away from the facility. On July 5, 2007, at 11:10 p.m., staff from the shelter reported the two females had been located and returned to the facility.

ASSAULT

July 5, 11:39 p.m.: Police responded to 197 E. Kalli Circle for a report of a shooting. Investigation revealed that a roadrage incident that started near the Parks Highway and Trunk Road, ended at 197 E. Kalli Circle. Robert L. Martin, 32, of Wasilla was shot in the thigh by Vadim Shapoval, 18, of Wasilla. The firearm was an SKS semi automatic rifle. Shapoval resides at 197 E. Kalli Circle. Alcohol was a factor. Investigation is continuing.

WARRANT ARRREST

July 5, 12:40 a.m.: Near Vine Road and Parks Highway, troopers arrested Tina Halderman, 26, of Wasilla, for an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of DUI. Halderman was also issued a summons for DWLR. Halderman was issued a citation for speeding, going 72 mph in a 55 mph zone. Halderman was remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility where bail on the warrant was set at $2,000 cash/corporate.

THEFT/BURGLARY

July 8, 1:20 p.m.: Troopers received a report of a portable generator being stolen from in front of a residence at Mile 13.8 Knik Goose Bay Road near Knik Lake. The property owner reported to Troopers that at approximately 9 a.m. he noticed that his 2002 red Honda 3000 portable generator was stolen from the front yard of his residence. The value of the Honda is estimated at $700 Anyone with information about this theft is asked to contact the Alaska State Troopers at 907-373-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 907-745-3333.

July 8, 7:45 p.m.: Troopers responded to a report of a burglary at 6830 Wellington Drive in Wasilla. Investigation revealed that unknown persons had burglarized the residence, causing damage to the property and stole approximately $5,000 worth of items. This case is under further investigation. July 8, 9:57 p.m.: Troopers responded to an address on Wolverine Road in Wasilla for the report of an attempted armed robbery. Suspects brandished a firearm, broke a window and threatened the residents before fleeing in an older model red Chevrolet pickup. Anyone with information is asked to contact Alaska State Troopers at 745-2131 or CrimeStoppers at 745-3333.

DUI

July 5, 2:24 a.m.: Troopers received a report of a REDDI vehicle at the Tesoro Station located at Mile 49 Parks Highway. Troopers contacted the driver who was identified as Kenneth Rawson, 45, of Big Lake. Further investigation revealed that Rawson was driving while under the influence, also that he was driving with a revoked license. Rawson was also charged with false information after he initially provided troopers with a false name. Rawson was arrested and booked on the charges of DUI, DWROL and false report.

DWLR / DUI

July 8, 1:05 a.m.: Trooper DUI enforcement team conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Hollywood Road and Edsulu Street, in Big Lake, for an equipment violation. Investigation revealed that the driver Dusten D. Hayes, 21, of Big Lake, was operating the vehicle under the influence and with a revoked operators license. Hayes was placed under arrest for DUI, and driving while license revoked. Hayes was transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility where he was remanded with bail set at $500.

MVC

July 5, 5 p.m.: Troopers responded to a MVC at Mile 98 of the Parks Highway. Investigation indicated that a 2001 Ford truck, which was being driven south on the Parks Highway by David Krompacky of Talkeetna, was attempting to turn east off the Highway when a 2003 Toyota truck that was being driven by Justin Bloxsom, 28, of Wasilla attempted to pass. The Toyota struck the Ford and then went into the ditch. Everyone was wearing seat belts and no one was injured. Both vehicles sustained about $500 in damage. Bloxsom was cited for failing to exercise due care to avoid a collision.

July 5, 12:18 p.m.: Troopers responded to a multiple vehicle collision at the intersection of East Susitna River road and the Parks Highway which is near mile 115 of the Parks Highway. Investigation indicated that Gabriel Bakst, 22, of Trapper Creek was driving a 1994 Pontiac Grand Am and failed to yield after stopping at the intersection of East Susitna River Road and the Parks Highway. His car was struck by a 1988 Subaru wagon which had been traveling South on the Parks and was being driven by John Udell, 23, of Illinois. As a result of the collision both cars collided with a third vehicle, a 1998 Dodge truck that had been parked at the other end of the intersection and which was being driven by Gerald Kempton, 19, of Anchorage. Everyone was wearing seatbelts and Bakst was the only one injured with minor cuts. The Pontiac and Subaru were totaled in the collision, and the Dodge truck sustained about $1500 in damage. Bakst was cited for failing to yield.

July 4, 12:24 p.m.: Troopers responded to a motor vehicle collision near mile 119 of the Parks Highway. Investigation indicated that James Lepley, 24, of Anchorage was driving a 2001 Chevy sedan South on the Parks Highway when a moose ran out onto the Highway. Lepley was unable to avoid the moose. Lepley who had been wearing his seatbelt was not injured. The car sustained about $2,500 in damage, and was towed from the scene. A local charity responded and harvested the moose. No citation was issued.

July 3, 7:14 p.m.: Troopers responded to a report of a single vehicle accident near mile 112 of the Parks Hwy. Investigation revealed that a 2004 yellow Dodge pickup driven by 26 year old Jeff Paa of Anchorage hydroplaned, and lost control. The vehicle left the roadway, and rolled over several times. Paa was wearing a seatbelt, but sustained minor injuries, and was transported to the hospital.

July 3, 5:44 a.m.: Troopers were notified of an injury collision involving a moose and a person was trapped inside, near mile 102.5 of the Parks Hwy. Investigation revealed Leif Moen, 26, of Anchorage was south bound in his 2000 Cadillac Eldarodo near mile 102.5 when a moose ran onto the roadway. Moen attempted to avoid the moose by applying his brakes and moving to the right. Moen struck the moose with the front left of his vehicle causing the moose to go through the windshield and entrapping the passenger in the vehicle. Moen's passenger was extricated from the vehicle by EMS and was transported to the hospital by Lifeguard where she is currently in the ICU. The vehicle is considered to to be totaled and the driver was released at the scene after refusing to go to the hospital. The moose was donated to a local charity.

July 5, 2:52 p.m.: Troopers responded to a motor vehicle collision on Gold Cord Road near Independence Mine, Palmer. Investigation revealed Delmar A. Bielen, 49, of Stratford, Wisconsin, was traveling south on a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle on Gold Cord Road when he ran off the road and crashed into a ditch. Bielen reported that he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was transported by helicopter to Providence Hospital in Anchorage for further evaluations. Bielen's motorcycle sustained approximately $9,000 in damage. No citations were issued.

NVOL

July 4, 7:45 p.m.: Troopers attempted a traffic stop on a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed on Hollywood Rd. in Big Lake. When Troopers activated their emergency lights, the operator of the motorcycle, Nicholas Hoppe, 15, of Big Lake, failed to yield and led the Troopers on a 7-mile -ong pursuit. Hoppe finally stopped the motorcycle approximately 3 miles down Hollywood Road. Hoppe was arrested and released to his parents.

July 2: Wildlife Troopers conducting a sport fishing patrol at Little Willow Creek, cited Ronald W. Gilbert, 27, of Valdez for using bait in an artificial lure only area while fishing at Little Willow Creek. Bail amount was set at $110.

July 4: Wildlife Troopers conducting a sport fishing patrol at Sheep Creek, cited Brittany A. McKinney, 23, of Anchorage, for using bait in an artificial lure only area while fishing at Sheep Creek. Bail amount was set at $110.

July 5: Fredrick Clohecy, 52, of Palmerton, PA was cited by Wildlife Troopers for using bait in the waters of Little Willow Creek. Bail was set at $110 in the Palmer District Court.

July 2, 10:39 p.m.: Michael W. Lott, 50, of Rocklin, CA was cited by Wildlife Troopers for failing to log a king salmon over 20". Bail was set at $110 in the Palmer District Court.

July 2, 10:39 p.m.: Richard F. Hughey, 49, of Anchorage was cited by Wildlife Troopers for failing to log a king salmon over 20". Bail was set at $110 in the Palmer District Court.

July 2, 9:12 p.m.: Kendra F. Nanalook, 25, of Anchorage, was cited by Wildlife Troopers for failing to log a king salmon over 20". Bail was set at $110 in the Palmer District Court.

July 5, 5:49 p.m.: Wildlife Troopers contacted Forrest D. Cook, 17, of Talkeetna. Cook was fishing in a single hook area using a treble hook. Cook was issued a citation for fishing with a treble hook in single hook waters. Bail was set at $110 in the Palmer District Court.

July 5, 5:49 p.m.: Wildlife Troopers contacted Glenn J. Benta, 31, of Anchorage. Benta was fishing in a single hook area using a treble hook. Benta was issued a citation for fishing with a treble hook in single hook waters. Bail was set at $110 in the Palmer District Court.

SPORT FISHING IN

CLOSED WATERS

July 6: Nicholas Pless, 22, of Anchorage, was cited by Wildlife Troopers for taking a king salmon over 20" and failing to log a king salmon in the closed waters of Montana Creek above the Parks Highway. Bail was set at $370 in the Palmer District Court.

July 6: Trenton Smith, 20, of Anchorage was contacted by Wildlife Troopers on Montana Creek. Smith was sport fishing for king salmon in waters closed to king salmon fishing, retained a king salmon and failed to log it on his license and hunting without a 2007 hunting license. Smith was cited. Bail is set at $630. Smith was also cited for shooting and killing a beaver during closed season. Arraignment is set for August 9, at 9:00 a.m. in Palmer District Court.

July 4: Wildlife Troopers contacted Polly M. Miner, 50, of Wasilla, while she was fishing in Willow Creek downstream of the Parks Highway. Miner was issued a citation for fishing in a closed area. Bail was set at $110 in the Palmer District Court.

July 7: Lloyd Mitchell, 57, of West Seneca, N.Y. was cited by Wildlife Troopers for sport fishing for king salmon in waters of Willow Creek above the Parks Highway. Bail was set at $110 in the Palmer District Court.

July 7: Arthur Barrett, 57, of Tucker, Ga. was cited by Wildlife Troopers for sport fishing for king salmon in waters of Willow Creek above the Parks Highway. Bail was set at $110 in the Palmer District Court.

July 7: Jacques Decou, 42, of Alpine, Wyo. was cited by Talkeetna Wildlife Troopers for sport fishing for king salmon in waters of Willow Creek above the Parks Highway. Bail was set at $110 in the Palmer District Court.

July 7: Galen Burgess, 36, of Denver, Colo. was cited by Talkeetna Wildlife Troopers for sport fishing for king salmon in waters of Willow Creek above the Parks Highway. Bail was set at $110 in the Palmer District Court.

MAKING A FALSE

STATEMENT

July 6: Dana Brossard, 25, of Wasilla, was cited by Wildlife Troopers for making a false statement on his 2007 Alaska sport fishing license. Bail was set at $310 in the Palmer District Court.
