Signup now for a basic prospecting class offered from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 10 at the Kerttula Hall on the Matanuska Experiment Farm, 1509 S. Georgeson Dr., in Palmer.
The workshop is offered by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Mining Extension Program and is taught by instructor Dave Wright who has lived and prospected in the Interior since the early 1970, mostly in the Goodpaster and Richardson districts. He has experience with locating, developing and promoting mining properties.
The workshop will cover ore material testing and identification, different types of geological maps, staking a claim, prospecting tools and equipment, geochemical sampling methods, gold panning and sluicing, and an overview of rock and mineral deposits.
