Public and individual assistance available to communities affected by 2023 Spring Floods

Governor Mike Dunleavy recently amended his May 15 State Disaster Declaration and activated the State of Alaska Public Assistance and Individual Assistance Disaster Recovery programs for numerous areas across the state that have been affected by floods.

The State is currently working with communities across the state to support residents and businesses that have been impacted by the 2023 Spring Flooding Disaster.

According to a recent press release from the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, registration for the State of Alaska Individual Assistance Program opened Wednesday, May 24. Anyone whose home or business that resides in the designated disaster zones is eligible to apply.

Individual Assistance can provide grants to individuals and families to repair their homes, pay for essential needs, and provide temporary housing.

Public assistance can reimburse communities for emergency protective measures associated with the disaster event and can fund repairs to damaged critical infrastructure.

According to the press release, areas such as NW Arctic Borough (Buckland, Kobuk, Noatak), Iditarod REAA (McGrath), Lower Kuskokwim REAA (Kwethluk), Lower Yukon REAA (St. Mary’s and potentially others), Alaska Gateway, Yukon Flats, Kuspuk, and Glennallen have been affected by floods.
