Ramona “Mona” E. (Christiansen, White) Howard

Passed away May 7, 2019 in Anchorage at the Alaska Native Medical Center. She was 59 years old.

Mona was born in Anchorage at the old Alaska Native Hospital on January 17, 1960. She was the third child and only daughter of Carl Christiansen and birth mother, Isabelle Morris. Mona was raised in Seward and attended Seward schools. She was an avid reader, loved plants, and enjoyed crocheting. Throughout her life, she made many friends whom she cared for dearly. She loved her many relatives and especially loved the little kids. Her friendly personality and quick humor made her a joy to be around. In her early 20’s she moved to Anchorage, married Lonnie White and gave birth to her first son, Anthony “Tony” White. She then moved to Wasilla around 1985 after separating from Lonnie. Shortly thereafter she made her home in Big Lake. In 1989 her second son, Richard “Ricky” Simms was born to her and her partner, Mike Simms. Mike passed away in 1996. Five years later, she married her second husband, Jeff Howard. After Jeff’s death in 2007, Mona stayed in Big Lake. In 2016 she moved to Willow and started helping Judy Reiter with her nursery business. She worked at The Talkeetna Chalet and B&B.

Mona is survived by her two sons, Tony and Ricky; precious granddaughter, Lilly White; step- mother Judi Christiansen; brothers, Hjalmar Christiansen and Carl Christiansen Jr.; niece, Alexandria Christiansen; uncles, Howard Christiansen and Mickey (Ling) Wilson; aunts, Fannie (Don) Kocher and Rita Goshorn; and many, many cousins.

Mona was preceded in death by her father, Carl Christiansen. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, June 23rd, 2019 at the Branson Pavilion in Seward from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. You are more than welcome to bring a dish of food to share.
