Ramy Marie Olson

Ramy Marie Olson, 16, fell asleep in the Lord July 7, 2008 as a result of a car accident near her home in Palmer.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 11, at Kehl’s Palmer Mortuary, 209 S. Alaska St., Palmer, and from 11 to 11:45 a.m., followed by a Byzantine funeral liturgy at noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1201 Bogard Rd., Wasilla on Saturday, July 12. The Rev. Michael Hornick will officiate.

Olson was born March 23, 1992, in Midwest City, Okla., and lived in Albuquerque, N.M., and San Pedro, Cal., until her family moved to Slapout, Ala., when she was in second grade. She moved to Palmer in eighth grade, but also remained linked to her friends in Alabama.

According to the family, a good friend of hers called her mother to tell her that everyone in Alabama still thought about or talked to Olson every day and he was not surprised to hear she had made many good friends in Alaska. She touched the hearts of everyone she met.

Her family also noted Olson was known for her smile and outgoing personality. She was a cheerleader most of her years. She loved animals and hoped to become a veterinarian. She volunteered at the Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue. She enjoyed four-wheeling, snowmachining, and just about anything else outdoors. She was also an avid quilter. Olson cantored at her church, Blessed Theodore Rhomza Byzantine Catholic Mission. Her parents were very proud of the beautiful young lady she had become.

Olson is survived by her parents, Roger and Kim Olson; brothers Anthony of Wahpeton, N.D., and Kirk of Minneapolis, Minn.; sister-in-law Kristen Schuchard of Minneapolis; niece Skylan of Wahpeton; grandparents Bob and Genny Kukla of Albany, N.Y.; aunts and uncles Deanna Jahnig of Britton, S.D., Steve, Brian and Tammy Olson of Britton, Meg Barber and Paul Kutz of Loudonville, N.Y., John and Cindy Kukla of West Sand Lake, N.Y, Michael Bastian and Lauryn Baldwin of Albany, John of Colonie, N.Y, Denise of Colonie, Butch of Burden Lake, and Lois Schultz of Albany, Putz Magenton of Britton, Virginia Sparby of Montevideo, Minn., and Tamlin Sandve of Langford, S.D; and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Pinky Bastian of Berlin, N.Y., and Sally (Olson) Johnson and Douglas Olson of Britton, and her uncles, Christopher Bastian of Berlin and Larry Jahnig of Britton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, the Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue or similar charity.

Arrangements were entrusted to Kehl’s Palmer Mortuary.
