Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Raymond L. Anselm passed away on Dec. 21, 2013, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer.
He was a longtime resident of Willow and King of the 2013 Willow Winter Carnival.
He was born in Chaffee, Mo., Nov. 6, 1937, to Wilfred Louis and Wilma (Billie) Romine Anselm. He served in the U.S. Navy after graduating high school in 1955. He was a member of Local 302 (retired) Local 1547 (retired). He worked construction trades and pipelines from the East Coast to the West Coast and points in between, from Valdez to Prudhoe Bay. He especially enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed time spent at the creek bank fishing for ailvers and weekends at Capitol Speedway rooting for Shayne and helping others. He enjoyed making custom jewelry and knives.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Linda Faye; son, Michael (mo) and wife, Cheri, of Big Lake; daughter, Michelle of Anchorage; son, Miles and wife, Bernadean, of Popular Bluff, Mo.; daughter, Dara of Windermere, Fla.; brother, Robert and wife, Donna, of Willow; brother, Steve Benton and wife, Marilyn, of Linn, Mo.; and grandchildren, Shayne, Shantyle, Danielle Anselm, Kyle and Heidi Worley.
Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant son, Raymond; and an infant grandson, Dennis Houser.
A memorial service is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Jan. 12, 2014, at his home at Mile 80, Parks Highway.
