Raymond Thomas Markey, “Gabby”, age 75, passed away quietly on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at home in Enumclaw, Washington. Born October 30, 1940, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late George and Gladys Markey (Bagley). He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marion L. Markey (Page); step-son, Robert P. Hoffman (Carol), of Enumclaw, Washington; daughters, Christine Roskos (Brent), of Acworth, Georgia, and Colleen Markey, of Murphy, North Carolina.

Survivors include granddaughter, Myranda Hoffman; grandsons, Patrick Hoffman, Raymond Hoffman and Jed Russo of Enumclaw, Washington, and various nieces and nephews. Gabby was preceded in death by a brother, and two sisters.

After retirement from the Air Force in 1985, he lived in Anchorage, Palmer, and Wasilla. Various jobs after retirement included the Auto Shop at Elmendorf Air Force Base as an advisor; maintenance supervisor for the Best Western Lake Lucille Inn; a motor home mechanic/troubleshooter for Nye Ford; Special Education school bus driver for Laidlaw Transportation and maintenance supervisor for Picnic Corp. at Amchitka Island in the Aleutians. In the 1990’s the Markey’s owned a transportation company called the “Valley Airport Shuttle” which carried passengers between the Valley and the Anchorage International Airport, prior to scheduled bus service to the Valley; and a metaphysical store “Imagination Unlimited” in Wasilla.

Gabby was a life member and held various offices in the VFW 9365, American Legion Post 35, Disabled American Veterans and AmVets Post 9 & 11, in Wasilla.

Gabby will be interned at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington, with full military honors. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank Franciscan Hospice, Dr. Jane Houtz and staff, and Klontz Funeral home.
