WASILLA — Recover Alaska is honoring three “Sober Heroes” for Sobriety Awareness Month in March for continually inspiring and positively impacting communities across the state.
Wes Brewington, Ralph Sara and Blaze Bell will lend their voices to break the stigma surrounding sobriety and recovery in a Sober Heroes video series that will be featured on social media, according to a recent press release.
Wes, Ralph, and Blaze share their stories of living sober and using their journeys to help inspire others to overcome their own fears.
“It takes courage to be open about sobriety in a culture that so often normalizes alcohol use, ” said Recover Alaska Executive Director Tiffany Hall stated in the press release. “This month, we’re honoring three people who have chosen to share their truth, and by doing so are rewriting the narrative about what sobriety can look like. They shoulder the responsibility of being role models for so many people looking to lead healthy, well lives. It feels incredibly important to recognize this gift they are giving our community and helping grow their platforms to normalize living an alcohol-free lifestyle. Sobriety is something to be immensely proud of – it isn’t a mark of shame.”
Recover Alaska is a multi-sector nonprofit organization that works to reduce the harm caused by excessive alcohol consumption in Alaska.
According to the press release, Recover Alaska created the Sober Heroes video series to fight the stigma of alcohol addiction.
Alaskans wanting to get involved in Sobriety Awareness Month can join Recover Alaska and the Alaska Humanities Forum virtually for a series of Story Circles to share sobriety stories or take the opportunity to connect with other members of Alaskan communities.
