Former Talkeetna area resident Reverend Joseph L Walstad passed away at the age of 101 in Las Cruces, NM on May 26, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was a Presbyterian minister who did pastorate work in Anchorage and surrounding communities. In the 60s he returned to school and obtained his teaching degree and worked as a school teacher in the Trapper Creek and Willow areas in the 60s thru 80s and homesteaded at mile 4 Talkeetna Spur Road. He and his wife Miriam, who passed 2 years prior at 99 were active in the church and community and after retirement from teaching also made numerous mission trips around Alaska. In their 70s they retired to New Mexico. Joe is survived by his children Gretchen Gross, David Walstad, Becky Augustus and Karen Shetler, their spouses and numerous grand and great grandchildren.
