Richard Donald “Dick” Hayes, 75, passed away Aug. 30, 2013, at the Alaska Veterans and Pioneers Home in Palmer.

A public visitation is at noon, Sept. 5 at Janssen’s Eagle River Funeral Home, 16421 Brooks Loop Road, Eagle River. Pastor Dan Walsh from Church in the Wildwood will officiate at a service beginning at 1 p.m.

Pallbearers include Don Hayes, Rick Hayes, Keith Hayes, Chris Hayes and Del Isabelle. Dick will be laid to rest at Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in Palmer.

Dick was born in Gadsden, Ala., Aug. 24, 1938. He was in the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Classified Division Headquarters in Michigan and Saudi Arabia from 1955-1961. Dick worked in retail management for B&J Family Stores in the early 1970s and become a partner in later years until 1989. He was a former partner of Wendy’s in Anchorage and Wasilla, and previous held ownership of Rainbow Storage in Houston, Alaska until retirement. After living in Fairbanks from 1968-1970 and Anchorage from 1970-2001, he made his home in Wasilla. His favorite thing was all the many special family times at Big Lake.

Survivors include wife, Judy Hayes of Wasilla; sons, Don of Eagle River and Rick Hayes of Long Island, N.Y.; grandsons, Keith and Chris Hayes of Anchorage; granddaughter, Carleena Hayes of New Orleans, La.; granddaughter, Jean Pennington and great grandson, Trevor; and various Hayes family members from Alabama and various Isabelle family members from Alaska, Ohio and West Virginia.

Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers; a sister; daughter, Tambra; and son-in-law, Gene Pennington.

Arrangements are with Janssen’s Eagle River Funeral Home.
