Richard Harold Millar of Anchorage died April 5, 2013.

He was born Oct. 12, 1949, in Shreveport, La., and from there he was off and running.

Rick moved to Mesquite, Texas, where in 1969 he met the girl who captured his heart and still holds it to this day, Jo Beth Burrows. They married in 1972 and together they have shared many adventures from coast to coast: Texas, Florida, Tennessee, California, Utah and, of course, the Last Frontier, Alaska. Along the way, they built their family, adding four daughters and two sons.

Rick proudly served nine years in the U.S. Coast Guard, where he gained a love of marksmanship and flying. Other interests included cars and technology. Rick always enjoyed offering tech support to friends and family; he never met a problem for which he couldn’t find a creative solution. Ever the extrovert, many a proprietor and wait staff was regaled by tales of his family and the home that he loved. Distinctive of voice, he worked for a time as “Rich Millar in the Morning” on Spanish Fork, Utah, radio. If you needed something announced with either gravity or humor, Rick was the man for the job.

Preceding him in death was his mother and step-father, Ruth Eileen Millar and Warren Eugene Millar; and his father, Jimmy Dan Smith.

Surviving are his sweetheart, Jo Beth Millar; and their children, Holly and Jason Wehrman, Heather and Jason Lindeman, Morganne Teseniar, Joshua Millar, Carina and Ryan Hopkins, AND Spencer and Ashley Millar; and his 10 grandchildren (We love you Grandpa Rick!); as well as his siblings, Gene Millar and Pam Kelly, Ronnie and Sheryl Millar, Don Millar, James D. Smith, Monroe Smith, Denise Wood, Renee Carpenter, Ellen Haworth and Darin Smith; and his step-mother, Elveta Smith.

A memorial service will be held honoring Rick’s life at 11 a.m., April 27 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 10865 West Horizon Dr., Wasilla. Our love, thoughts and prayers follow our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and son. ’Til we meet again.
