Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Richard (Rick) Johnson Sr., 57, passed away from natural causes in his home on June 29, 2013. Rick was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, an excellent athlete and good friend to many.
A celebration of life is at 4 p.m., July 13 at 6761 West Cambridge Dr. in Wasilla; casual and comfortable, as Rick wanted.
Rick was born in Miami, Fla., the second of four children, to Ellison and Martha Johnson on Dec. 14, 1955. A military family, they moved to France, Texas and then found home in Alaska in 1960. Rick graduated from East High School in 1974 before meeting his wife, Marge, in 1977. Rick and Marge were married six years later in 1983, before completing his degree in petroleum engineering from Kenai Community College in 1984.
Rick retired after 19 years as a telecommunications representative for ACS in 2009. Since retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, working with his son, spending time with his daughter and grandchildren, camping, fishing and catching the occasional hockey game on TV
Rick is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marge Johnson; son and daughter-in-law, Richard Jr. and Kara Johnson; daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Buck Roberts; grandchildren, Tyler and Julianna Johnson, Levon and Kylee Roberts; brother, Ron Johnson and Kim Hankins; sister, Rene and husband Leland Tims; sister, Linda and husband Bill Delahoussaye; mother-in-law, Wilma and husband Chuck Gonzales; and nieces, nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellison and Martha Johnson; and father-in-law, Floyd Peters.
