Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Richard “Rich” L. Allen, 48, died Oct. 4 2012, with family and friends by his side.
He was born Sept. 22, 1964, in Kentucky. Rich moved to Alaska in 1986 and married Sue Lamb in 1989.
Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Sue Allen; siblings, Curtis D. Allen, Shelia K. McDonald, Susie Unseld, Debbie J. and Stanley G. Stone; mother, Virginia F. Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was his father, Curtis E. Allen.
Rich was a telecommunications engineer for MetaSwitch and was formerly employed by Matanuska Telephone Association.
Rich loved hiking, snowmachining, biking and throwing a stick for his beloved Canon. He was truly at home in Alaska.
Friends are encouraged to attend an outdoor memorial celebration at Happy Trails Kennels at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 8. Jeans and warm clothes are suggested attire. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association Anchorage Tour de Cure. Sponsor Kim Kittredge, who is riding in Rich’s honor.
