Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Richard “Rick” Russell Minars, Jr., 46, of Wasilla, died Sept. 3 from injuries received in a vehicle accident. Visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Le Center, Minn., on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. A funeral will be at the church on Saturday at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Le Center. Arrangements are with Le Center Funeral Home.
Rick was born on Aug. 21, 1963 in Faribault, Minn., to Richard and Rita (Thomas) Minars. He graduated from Le Center High School and Jackson Vocational School in Jackson, Minn. He moved to Alaska 25 years ago and worked as an electrician on oil rigs. He formed his own business there called Tesla Electric. Rick enjoyed fishing, hunting, taxidermy, drawing, family and friends.
He is survived by his mother, Rita Minars of Le Center; sisters, Deb (Bob) Claffey of Le Center and Melissa Minars (and fiancé Tony Dobmeier) of Le Center; girlfriend, Deb Branson of Anchorage; and niece and nephew, Rachel and Jimmy Claffey.
Rick is preceded in death by his father, Richard and step-father, Thomas Blaschko.
