Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Robert (Bob) Taylor was born in Howell, MI, on April 12th, 1932 and passed away on January 13th, 2023 at the grand age of 90. He grew up in the construction industry building custom homes with his father and graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1954. Later that year he married Claudette (Cay) Cartwright and they shared 52 years of adventure together. They lived and worked in Taiwan, Germany, and several of the lower 48 states while Bob served in the Air Force and rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel. Together they raised a family of three and settled in Anchorage in 1972. They moved to Palmer in 2005, built their dream home and embraced retired life. Bob loved his wife, family, gardening, the outdoors and flying his PA-12. His lilies and peonies were beautiful and he produced state fair worthy zucchini’s. He was proud of being the supervising engineer in the construction of the St. Paul Island break wall and harbor. Bob was active in his local community, volunteered with several organizations, including crime stoppers and he was a deacon in his church.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cay. He is survived by his sister, Arlene Osgood and her husband Russ and their family in Boulder, CO; his children, Kent Taylor and wife Lisa, Brent Taylor and his wife Kim, and Tanya Newell and her husband Simon; grandchildren Bryan and his wife Brandy, Kyle, Anahelene, Kaj, Mitchell and Catieann; and great grandchildren, Brandyn and Bryanna.
The family will hold a celebration of life at the United Protestant Presbyterian Church in Palmer, Alaska, on June 17th 2023, at 1:00P.M.
