Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident Robert D. Bolinder, 54, died Jan. 31 at his home.
A service will be held on Sunday at 2600 N. Berries Resort Dr., Palmer Elk’s Lodge at 2 p.m.
Robert was born on May 6, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He became a resident of Palmer in 1986.
Mr. Bolinder worked all over Alaska. He was employed at Laborers Local 341 and Swalling Construction most of his life. He also worked at Alaska Concrete Sawing. He retired in 2008 from the Labor Union Local 341.
Robert was involved in WuTan Kung Fu and Taichi Institute of Anchorage. He also was a master woodworker and swordsmith. He enjoyed training in the WuTan Kung Fu and Taichi system under Shifu Kurt Wong. Robert really loved working, hunting and fishing with his son.
His family wrote: “Robert loved his wife and family most of all, he cherished his friends and work; enjoying most everything he took a passion doing in his life.”
Robert is survived by his wife, Denise, son Dan, and daughter Niki of Palmer; Lania of Las Vegas, Nev.,; Barbara Smolka of Salt Lake City; brother Dave Bolinder, wife Marla and children Josh, Amber, Mandi, Rod, Blake, Amber, Allisha, Allaina and Brandi; brother Gene Bolinder, wife Deliha, and daughters Jesse and Megan; brother Kenney Bolinder and wife Julie Bolinder; mother Lania Skola; uncle Bill Carter; and grandchildren Tobe, JT, Javin, Jenna, Nia Mea, Tavi, Davarion, and son-in-law Justin Smolka.
