Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Robert Glenn Woods, 89, died of natural causes Sept. 16, 2012, with his loving daughters by his side and under the excellent care of Wickersham House Assisted Living in Wasilla.
As he requested, no service are planned. His ashes, along with the ashes of his beloved wife Margie, will be scattered at Moose Pass Upper Trail Lake next summer.
Robert was born Nov. 2, 1922, in Thrift, Texas.
Robert married Margaret Malin Feb. 15, 1942, in Fairplay, Colo. He lived in Renton, Colo., until 1942, in then moved to Denver. Robert had three children: Roy, Ruth and Marjorie.
The family moved to Anchorage in 1946, to Moose Pass in 1950 and lived in Moose Pass until 2005 before moving to Soldotna. The family then moved to Palmer, and finally to Wasilla in 2007.
In Moose Pass, Robert worked for the Alaska Railroad, Estes Brothers and the Bureau of Public Roads before going into business for himself operating a service station, doing mechanic work, operating a towing service along with an heating oil delivery service.
He was a kind, caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had fond memories about his years at the set-net salmon fishing site on North Beach. He so enjoyed the many friends and family who came to visit.
His hobby of woodworking and making projects expanded to birdhouses, outdoor benches, chairs and toys. Robert and Marge had a guest book titled “Bird Watchers Guest Book Moose Pass, Alaska 8/2000-9/2005,” attracting tourists and visitors from all over Alaska, the Lower 48 and countries such as Germany, Holland, England and Ireland.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Larry Foster of Palmer; daughter, Ruth Moorcroft of King Salmon; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Ames of Kenai; sisters-in-law, Betty Hardy of Tustin, Calif., Peggy Jones of Hill City, Kan., and Helen Woods of Sterling; daughter-in-law, Peggy Woods of Las Vegas, Nev.; and many nieces, cousins and so many friends.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Margie; son, Roy Woods; and grandsons, Douglas and Ralph Moorcroft.

The family was taken care of by Legacy Kehl’s Palmer Chapel in Palmer.
