Robert H. Clemmons

Palmer resident Robert Hamilton Clemmons, 59, died Feb. 15, 2011, while working on the North Slope.

A celebration of life is Thursday night and will involve stories of “Robert lore” with his sisters. For details, call (907) 229-8248.

Robert was born April 9, 1951, in Waco, Texas, to a career Air Force family that moved to Elmendorf AFB in 1968. He graduated from West High in 1970 and remained in Alaska when the family returned to the Lower 48, claiming Alaska residency by choice. He loved the state, the people and the climate of Alaska.

He was a master welder and crane operator, truck driver and even did a brief stint as a tour guide in his younger days, where his storytelling skills were refined.

He raised the steel for many buildings in Texas, Colorado, Washington, D.C., and Alaska. He spent several years in Vail, Colo., and became an avid skier. Later, he moved to Bear Valley, where he lived for the last 20 years. He had recently moved to Palmer. He is remembered as a beloved brother and the greatest uncle ever.

Surviving are his siblings in Texas, Janet and H.W. Denny, Cindy and Ron Batman, and Bill and Linda Clemmons; five nephews and one niece.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Billy and Jean Clemmons.

His “canine children,” Chopper, Maggie and Daisy, will be placed in new homes. Any memorials in his honor should be made to the Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue or the Alaska Humane Society.
