Robert Lindsey Munford

Robert Lindsey Munford 84, of Wasilla, Alaska, passed away peacefully at home on March 18th, 2022.

Bob was born on February 19, 1938, in Farmington Iowa, to Victor and Nadine Munford. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1956, and then spent his summer in Montana, working for the Forest Service as a fire spotter in a lookout tower. In 1957 he attended barber school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and began a career cutting hair. Bob married Lois Ridgeway in 1958, and they had two daughters, Susan and Brenda. In 1962, Bob saw an ad in the local newspaper, “good business opportunity, barber wanted in Palmer, Alaska”. He packed his bag and spent a month at the local boarding house, which is now the Colony Inn before sending for Lois and the girls to join him. He eventually opened Bob’s Barber Shop in Palmer. In 1973 Bob became a licensed Realtor and said goodbye to the barber business. He enjoyed real estate and was still active at the time of his passing. Bob had a special love for Hawaii and spent many years living there in the 80’s and then returning to visit as often as he could. Bob loved to play golf, but more importantly people loved to play golf with Bob. For those that played golf with him the day was nothing short of a fun filled fabulous experience.

Bob was well known in the A.A. community and would have had his 36th birthday on May 3rd. He seemed always to have time for people in recovery, he sponsored often and mentored many. He was tireless in his dedication and his presence will be greatly missed.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Nadine Munford, brother, Duane Munford, close friend and former wife, Lois Munford, daughter, Susan Munford, brother-in-law Tom Ridgeway, and niece, Kay Lynn Ridgeway.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Stan George; grandchildren, Chelsey Munford, Tyler George, Melissa George, Haley George (Nate Weishuhn), and Lucas George (Reanna Stewart); great-granddaughters, Kali Mueller, Lexius Stewart, Rylee and Lily Horton; sisters-in-law, Barbara Munford, Shirly Ridgeway, Connie (Donnie) Ward; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His story telling, humor, and sage advice will be deeply missed by family and friends.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Ancora Hospice. At Bob’s request no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to www.aa.org. or to Alaska Addiction Rehabilitation Services at (907) 376-4534 (formerly Nugen’s Ranch). Condolences may be sent to 6330 E. Finger Lake View Dr., Wasilla, AK 99654.
