Longtime Alaska resident Robert Richard Wansor, 61, passed away Aug. 23, 2013, after an ongoing battle with chronic health problems at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center.

A service is at 1 p.m., Aug. 31 at St. Michael in Palmer. A celebration of life open to the public is at 4 p.m., Aug. 31 at Alpine Inn in Sutton.

Robert was born Feb. 5, 1952, in East Rockaway, N.Y. He moved to Alaska in 1961 and made this his home. Robert worked as inside wireman journeyman for the Local 1547 IBEW until he retired in 2009.

He loved to hunt, fish, bird watch and garden. He also liked muscle cars, Jeeps and track rigs — anything military — and was an avid history buff.

His family writes: “He was fun-loving, easygoing, extremely generous, had a unique sense of humor and was hard-working, dependable and very reliable. He loved his family more than anything and he was a great mentor to many in his career field. He loved to share his knowledge with anyone willing to learn.”

Surviving are his son, Eric Wansor of Wasilla; daughter, Melissa Wansor of Palmer; brothers, Daniel Wansor and James Aloes of Anchorage; ex-wife, Cynthia Wansor of Sutton; and granddaughters, Kaylee Stokes and Madison Dringenberg of Palmer; dear friend, Anita Cagle of Sutton; Robert’s loving companion Max (his faithful dog) of Sutton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family ask that any memorial donations be made to cancerresearch.org in Robert’s name.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kehl’s Palmer Mortuary.
