Robert Ward Christensen, 69, passed away June 9, 2013 at his home near Palmer from cancer.

Robert was born in Anchorage on Feb. 24, 1944 to Alfred James and Opal Christensen. He was raised in Cordova and Juneau.

He served his country for two years in the Army, fished with Joe McGill in Southeast and Bristol Bay waters and was an assistant with the Legislature in Juneau. Robert became a journeyman carpenter and helped build the Alaska State Capital, along with many other projects across Alaska and Washington. He also worked on the pipeline (Robert loved Alaska and was dedicated to the state he loved so much). Finally, he worked at Palmer Senior Center. He enjoyed talking about and sharing his many adventures, people and the friends he had and met throughout his life. Roberts’s faith was strong in God. He loved and prayed for all of his children, family and friends.

He leaves behind wife, Brenda Christensen of Alaska; sisters, Barbara and Peggy Lee of Washington and Sheila of Palmer; brothers, William, Kelly and Christian; children, Robert, Heather and Nathan; daughter and friend, Stephanie Steinman of Washington; grandchildren, Sarah and Natalie (whom he was so proud of); step-mother, Peggy MacDonald of Palmer; step-children, Joe, Victor and Michelle; and more than 19 grandchildren.

A celebration of life and potlatch is planned in Sutton for family and friends at a date to be announced later.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kehl’s Palmer Mortuary.
