passed away from heart failure on Monday, December 10, 2018. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was a friend and mentor to many.

He was born in Pueblo, Colorado on February 13, 1955, where he was raised on his family’s farm with his four brothers. After graduating from Pueblo High, he attended Midwestern State University (MSU) in Wichita Falls, Texas. He met and married the love of his life, Anita Raye Underwood on September 27, 1975 while at MSU. After graduating MSU, he directed the K-12 music program for the San Luis School District in Colorado.

Rodney and Anita moved to Alaska in June of 1982, where he started working for the United States Postal Service. They welcomed their beautiful daughter Anastacia in 1984. In 1988 their wonderful son Lucas was born.

In 1989 Rodney attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, where he graduated with a Masters of Divinity. Upon graduating, the family returned to Alaska in 1996. He returned to the USPS and began work as a pastor. Rodney served for 21 years as a bi-vocational pastor at Schrock Road Community Church. Sharing the gospel was Rodney’s greatest passion in life and this was reflected in his work as a pastor as well as a postal employee.

Rodney is survived by his beloved bride, Anita; daughter, Anastacia Tew (Richard), grandchildren: Kaylie, Corbin, Bryan; Son, Lucas Kovtynovich (Alora), grandchildren: Grace, Shawn; and Brothers: Skeeter Kovtynovich, Edward Kovtynovich, and Bart Kovtynovich.

His celebration of life service will be held at Cross Country Church (formerly Schrock Road Community Church) on Sunday December 16, 2018 at 3pm.
