Ronald Keith Castor

Ronald Keith Castor passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on September 9, 2022 at the Maple Springs Assisted Living Community in Anchorage, Alaska. He was born on August 21, 1930 in Sterling, CO to Harry Jay and Mary Friederike Castor. He grew up on a small farm west of New Raymer, Colorado with his parents and brother Delbert (“Dee”) Deland Castor. Ron and Dee had another brother, Charles LeRoy Castor. Sadly, his brother Charles passed away as an infant before Ron was born. Ron attended both Buckingham and New Raymer schools and graduated from New Raymer High School in 1948. While in school he was active in sports playing basketball, baseball and track. Ron enlisted in the Navy in 1951 and was stationed on the USS Hornet during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954. In 1952 Ron Married Gloria Schmitz. This union created four wonderful children (Debra, Anna, Daniel and Karla) of which he considered his greatest accomplishments. This union ended in 1968. After serving in the Navy, he came back to CO, and settled in Sterling CO. He worked several jobs eventually starting a long career with Halliburton as a Chief dispatcher, where he worked in Sterling, Brighton and Kimball NE. Ron married Louise Van Norman (The Love of His Life) in 1969. They were truly a match made in heaven, enjoying all that life offered together. After retiring from Halliburton, Ron and Louise moved to Alaska to enjoy all that the Great Frontier offered including hunting, fishing, camping and gardening.

At his core he was a principled man that valued family and personal integrity. He had an inventor’s mind and was always tinkering with things to understand how they worked and how they could work better. He was an avid reader and loved to learn. He often said, “Every Day is an Adventure if you are learning something”. Truly a self-made man.

Ronald was preceded in death by his loving wife Louise Marie Castor, his parents Harry Jay and Mary Friederike Castor and brothers Delbert “Dee” Deland Castor and Charles LeRoy Castor. Ronald is survived by his Children, Debra Lee and (Chuck) Carver of Sutton, AK, Anna Marie Castor of Anchorage, AK, Daniel Jay and (Teresa) Castor of Arvada, CO and Karla Renee Castor of Wasilla, AK.
